With the latest edition of MCE, Microsoft has added support for additional networked devices called Media Center Extenders the extenders allow users on other TVs to receive all the same content that is available on the TV connected to the MCE computer (except HDTV content), over wired or wireless Ethernet. Microsoft has released their own first party remote, receiver and IR blaster with MCE 2005. Of course larger hard drives are recommended, and Microsoft is pushing to cases that resemble other home theater equipment, but neither of those are requirements. Users wishing to use Media Center Extenders, or that don't have hardware decoders are recommended to have at least a 3.0 GHz processor, 512MB-1GB of RAM, and at least two tuners. That's with only one tuner, no extenders, and a hardware encoder and decoder. MCE 2005 requires a minimum of a 1.6 GHz (or equivalent) processor, and 256 MB of RAM. The hardware specs have been increased by no small margin over the normal Windows XP specs. MCE 2005 supports up to 3 tuners on a single computer.
